Be on Offense All the Time
In the Playbook, my signature philosophy, I talk about offense vs. defense.
I believe there are 4 steps to goal attainment. Mindset, Vision, Strategy/Planning and Execution. If you complete all 4 steps, you will realize almost any goal. But most people don’t realize they have to do these 4 steps.
You use your mindset and vision to obtain the goal. This may seem counterintuitive, but we have to be on offense with our visualization and mindset.
Another word for offense is to be aggressive. It’s not always socially acceptable to be aggressive in our execution.
When is the last time you felt comfortable with a pushy and aggressive salesperson? Or dating prospect?
Nevertheless, goals do require aggression. You just have to go about it a different way.
When I needed a job, instead of applying to hundreds of positions, getting few interviews and no offers, I instead picked a job I liked and started talking like I was there. I even gave myself an email address there and an extension. And aggressively programmed my mind to be there; every time I’ve done this, I’ve gotten the job.
I still had to make an application and the interview, but by that time I was on defense (which I’ll explain in a minute).
