I think the Academy knew they f****d up when:
1) he was allowed to stay in the building
2) received his award to a standing ovation
3) he partied that night like nothing happened

Sends a bad message that you can assault someone on an awards stage unprovoked and nothing happens to you. That’s where the 10 year ban came from. He can still be nominated and win, he just can’t enter the building which would happen pretty much anywhere he did that.
