Solopreneurs and Wordpress: 3 lessons to live by

WordPress is the leader in do-it-yourself site building; more websites run on WordPress than any other CMS (Content Management System).
The problem is that the average person does not know how to build a WordPress site (or any website for that matter) nor are aware of the many things involved in maintaining it.
I hate seeing people get taken advantage of in general, especially in the web development industry.
My latest client, a solopreneur, was trying to go it alone and teach herself WordPress and build her site simultaneously. The more she talked to me, the more I thought, “I wish she found me before doing all this” I would have saved her a ton of time and money.
Here are three things I would tell anyone inexperienced in web design (including WordPress):
1) Never pay the project fee upfront— The designer my client worked with had her pay everything up front, and I sometimes get that clients can bail and leave you holding the bag, a bag with no money.
