Standing Between Two Fears

If you aren’t living up to your potential it’s likely because you are standing between 2 fears.

These 2 fears can keep you an underachiever for life, the fear of failure, and the rejection. Both have their roots in how we feel about other people.

The fear of failure often comes about from not wanting to disappoint others. We are often OK with private failure. We aren’t thrilled but we can live with that. It’s when that failure becomes public that we typically start to panic. Failure is such a common thing, it makes zero sense to fear it

Every time you’ve burnt a piece of toast, parked incorrectly on the street, missed the bus that will get you to work on time, or sent an email with typos, you have failed.

But what do we do in almost all cases?

We keep going.

Apply that to your dreams, the things you really want but are too afraid to pursue.

The fear of rejection is all about people-pleasing. We want people to like us. We want people to like what we do. But the desire to be liked becomes an obsession for many. And this obsession causes stagnation when it comes to pursuing that which we want.

I hate to break it to you but everyone isn’t to like you or what you offer. Everyone won’t buy your book, like your page, or listen to your podcast.

In most cases, your product just doesn’t apply to them. In some cases, these people won’t like you for whatever reason.

In all cases, it doesn’t matter.

If you have a fear of rejection, you are focused on the wrong thing. Your focus needs to be on your work when doing it and on the people for whom you are making it.

Social media haters and trolls are irrelevant.

Their opinion doesn’t matter.

What matters is you finish your work and make it available to the world. When you do that, you have won and the fear of rejection starts to die a little.

In both cases, the fear of failure and rejection both weaken when you do what you set out and stop caring what every person thinks.

Once you disarm the fear of failure and the fear of rejection, you will become unstoppable.
