Stay Focused — Distraction is Expensive

There are a growing number of accidents stemming from people checking their phones while driving; checking is one thing, but I’ve seen them hold up their phones with one hand and drive with the other, and that can’t be safe. Besides the monetary cost of an accident, there is the possible loss of life, whether by the driver or another driver or pedestrian. Then you have the traumatic effects of such an incident.

Distraction is expensive.

Pleaybook principle #20 is what gets tracked, gets done. Tracking is my term for focus and concentration. Focus is the ability to follow a path and stay on it until completion. Tracking is a decision you must make when pursuing a goal. We often lose track of time, our goals, and our dreams because we don’t understand the purpose of tracking.

This principle and others are what I call defensive principles. They don’t add to your life as much as they protect what you already have.

I used to be terrible at staying focused, especially at work and in school. But you get a poor grade when you lose track of school assignments. Poor grades lead to decreased opportunities.
