Take a bite out of fear and worry

Worry and fear are two of the biggest hindrances to success. It doesn’t have to be that way, though.

Worry is fear in action.

If you eliminate fear, the worry goes with it. Getting fear and anxiety out of your life can be a challenge in and of itself, so let’s focus on the worry part. Every moment of every day, we are focusing on something. No matter what we are doing, we are locking in on something.

To worry means to focus on the negative things in our life. It doesn’t matter if there are 5 times more things in your life that are going right than wrong; for some people, it is more natural to focus on the wrong things or negative things. Think about it this way. If all you ever focus on is at the negative, then that is all you see. Spiritual law says that we get all of the land that we see. That is a great incentive to change the focus of our lives.

I know that it can be easy to focus on the negative, but that is only because of habit. Especially if you grew in a married household. That is what you were taught. No judgment because the people that raised us did the best they could. But we know more now about what stress and worry can do to us psychosomatically. Meaning the effect of worry and stress on our physical health. It can also affect us emotionally. Have you ever been in a relationship with someone who was stressed all the time? How much fun was it? If you were the stressed out one, how much fun were you?

Worry stops (or severely limits the amount of fun we can have in life) How much life we can truly live? I was at the gym this morning and watching the news, which has one negative story after the other, they had commercials for medications to treat everything from hepatitis C, heart disease, and diabetes.

There were 3 very negative stories and then 3–4 depressing ads. All in a span of about 10 minutes when I checked out and kept my eyes on my machine. We focus on negative things and then are shocked when they show up and stay in our lives. You have to refocus.

How do you slow the tide of fear and worry?

Refrain from or limit watching the news
Refrain from excessive social media
If you do venture on social media, only follow positive feeds. People or companies who promote negativity should be blocked and/or unfollowed
Stop engaging in negative conversations
Really take stock in how much negativity you bring to the world. And eliminate it out of your life.

An excellent essay to read is the 7-day mental diet by Emmet Fox. This essay fundamentally challenges the reader only to think of only positive things for 7 days.

That means thinking no negativity whatsoever.

You will find that this will be one of the hardest things you’ve ever done. But it is worth it because one of the side effects will be a sharp decrease in worry. It’s tough to worry when there are no negative thoughts to feed on

Doing these things will go a long way toward eliminating worry and also making a big dent in fear too.
