What Script Are You Acting Out?
A few years ago, a company let me go because I could not keep up with the demand of the job.
I thought about leaving the field altogether. Then I realized that the script running in my mind was not giving me the results I wanted.
The problem wasn’t the field, I needed to change the script.
But I also had to understand I had the power to change my programming.
It’s so simple that most people don’t think about it.
We think we have to go through certain things.
We feel we have to have bad days, bad months, bad years, etc.
We build negative expectations in the script, and of course, we act them out. Your mind is like a computer; it runs the program you give it.
If you run a financial struggle script, then no money will offset that.
If you run an “I can’t do that” script, hard work will not overcome that.
You cannot outwork your negative programming.
Our thought and actions are congruent with our beliefs. Most people never challenge their beliefs and live at far less than their potential as a result.
Let’s say you run a business.
If you believe business is slow, your ideas and actions will align with that belief. You will find yourself struggling to keep up or get any business when all of this is happening in your mind.
Economies go up and down; I get it.
But we can’t allow our beliefs to align with that.
Countless people proved you can make money in a pandemic. The last recession produced millionaires and billion dollar corporations. You can be successful when everyone else around you struggles.
But you have to change the script.
Take this example of what I call “The Struggle Script”
- I’m trying to make it
- It’s hard out here
- No one will buy
- There are no good men/women left
- Things are tough right now
- I don’t know what to do
The “Struggle Script” may be running in your head day after day. What do you believe your outcomes will be?
They will reflect that script.
What is a better script to run?
- Things are going well
- There’s plenty of business/clients/customers
- There are plenty of jobs
- I do work I love
- The right person is out there for me, and I’m going to find them.
If you run this script, you will eventually think and act from a different place. The right ideas and the right actions naturally follow.
To start changing your life, change the script.
