Your Mindset Creates Opportunities (But Actions Cash Them In)

I flew up to New York from Florida yesterday, the day started typically with me doing my morning walk and then coming home to do a little work before my family, and I caught a plane.

While on the way to the airport, we got a delayed flight alert that would set us back about an hour. No biggie, I said as we continued, then another text came through saying our flight would be 3 hours late.

“We’re going home,” I said to my wife and daughter. And home we went, I had plenty of things to do for work, and they also would take advantage of the time.

As I settled in, here comes **another** alert from Southwest; this was starting to get a bit much.

Our flight was back on its original schedule, and we had roughly an hour to make it.

“Gotta Go!” I screamed from my office, and I hurried everyone into the SUV so we could catch our flight.

Two parking lots were at capacity, but thankfully, our airport is small, so even though I had to park further away, it wasn’t too far away that I couldn’t run, albeit slowly, to the terminal.

My wife (I knew I picked the right one) got all our boarding passes, and I met her and my daughter at the security check-in.

We made our flight.

But there was more to our day.

With 20 minutes left in the flight, we were stuck in a holding pattern because of the weather in New York. Kudos to the pilots and air traffic controllers who safely got us on the ground.

After an eventful day on the ground and in the air, we walk to meet our bags at LGA. I find us a seat while my mom is on the way to pick us up. I hear a man speaking to a few people about his books.

In my mind, I know I’m next.

I have a radar about these things.

Next thing I know:

“What’s up, man.”

“Hey, I replied.”

So they left you with the bags? Referring to my family who went to get something to drink.

“What type of books do you read?”

I said personal development.

He said most of the books he reads are personal development.

And then came the close.

He pulled out some of his books.

I looked them over; I decided to buy one. I wanted to support the author’s efforts.

He was in town for a book signing. My wife heard that part.

I try to see lessons in everything. And this was no different.

I’m an entrepreneur, but am I at the point of walking up to strangers and telling what Id o? No, not yet, but maybe I need to be.

The author is John Andrews; you can find his books here. He has a mindset to write and sell books, and that is what he creates in his life.

His mindset created an opportunity, a scenario where someone would buy. His actions, asking me to purchase his books, turned the opportunity into success.

How many opportunities do you miss?

I don’t think fear is as important as understanding that you have to take advantage of the opportunity when it shows up.

You can read many mindset books, go to seminars, and hire coaches. But until you take action, none of it matters.

He taught me something in the midst of a pretty busy day.

Something I won’t soon forget.
